So Long, Marianne by Leonard Cohen and his band “The Army” live in 1972. 1972 was an interesting year for Leonard Cohen. His “wife” Suzane gave birth to their first child, which meant much less time with Marianne, his first love who he lived with in Greece since the mid-60’s. An alternative set of lyrics give further insight to Cohen’s struggle to be monogamous with Suzanne, while still wanting to be with Marianne. “If you leave, where will I keep you then? In my heart, as some men say. And I who was meant to love everyone, why should I keep you so far away?”
In this video, “After the song Cohen breaks down in tears. He flees off stage, & cannot muster the brave to return.” (via nosex)
